Dear Fantesca friends and family,

We hope you had a wonderful winter season and that you have made some fun-filled plans for the upcoming summer months. Should your plans include a trip to Napa, we would love to see you at one of our events.

In true Fantesca fashion, the last few months have been as busy as ever! Susan has been traveling to the finest wine regions in the world as a member of the 12-person Wine MBA program based out of Bordeaux, France. After trips to Bordeaux and Australia, she’ll be heading south to Chile to further her worldly wine expertise. Duane has been keeping his finger on the pulse of all sales and operations at Fantesca and is gearing up for a busy summer and harvest at the winery.

We hope to see you soon!

Cheers,
Susan & Duane

Winery & vineyard update from Associate Winemaker Jon Leahy

Associate Winemaker Jon LeahyThis winter and early spring has certainly given us a bounty of water! According to the winery weather station we are sitting on a 25.25-inch surplus of rain so far for this season.

January saw some incredible flooding here in the valley, and it was a sight.  Thankfully no damage to our vineyard here on Spring Mountain, just a few waterfalls!

Currently we are all waiting to get back into the vineyards for early spring chores and clean up.  We will have to keep an eye on the soil nutrients with all the extra water carrying away some of the trace minerals we rely on.  This is a small price to pay for such a wonderful growing area to have.

Winter racking of the 2005 wines has proceeded nicely. The wines have all finished their ML fermentations and have been put to bed for the remainder of the winter and early spring. 2005 is shaping up and developing with surprising sophistication for such young wines on Spring Mountain

To put some minds to rest about the rain and the crop of 2006, the rains can keep up for now with no worries, however we would like to see sunny warm and dry weather by mid May for our pollination to take place. Right now the winery is very focused on the vineyard.  This is the time we actually start to make wine, with every decision made now in the vineyard is significant.  When it comes to harvest time, the quality of the fruit stops developing as soon as it is picked, so now is the time to insure a fantastic harvest.

2nd Annual Hands-On Harvest

2nd Annual Hands-On HarvestAttention to all the budding vintners out there! Fantesca has announced its 2nd annual Hands-on Harvest to take place on Saturday, September 30. In celebration of harvest in the Napa Valley, we invite you to test your harvesting skills in this true hands-on experience. At Hands-on Harvest you will spend the morning harvesting and sorting Fantesca grapes. Once you have worked up a hearty appetite join Fantesca Proprietors Susan & Duane Hoff at their home for a family-style harvest meal, paired with Fantesca wines.

To make reservations for this event, please contact Heather Hemquist at 707.968.0890 or email heather@fantesca.com. The day-long event is $175 per person and includes breakfast, a morning spent as a winemaker, an afternoon harvest lunch and a component tasting of Fantesca wines.
