Prince Fatty- Survival Of The Fattest (Mr. Bongo) CD
Another glorious title we’ve been keeping under wraps here at Slinky!!! I had to stop playing the promo in store to avoid good people trying to pry it out of my hands!!! This has to be THE reggae release of the summer! Great Contributions from Little Roy, Winston Francis and Hollie Cook. A euphoric mix of vocal, instrumental and Dj tracks brilliantly paced! There isn’t a dead moment on the thing! If you liked the Brazilian Funk or Brooklyn releases this matches those releases smile power, track for track! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Prince Fatty is a group put together by producer and engineer Mike Pelanconi, (whose recent credits include Lilly Allen's smash ‘Alright Still’ for Regal/EMI and ‘Little Barrie’ Stand your Ground for Genuine/PIAS) for the purpose of recording a limited-edition single for Stussy to celebrate their 25th anniversary. ‘Ninas Dance’ became an underground smash, enjoying 8 plays on Radio 1, and by popular demand Mr Bongo secured Fatty's recording services for the follow up album titled ‘Survival of the Fattest’.
The Prince Fatty sound is designed to Dub your feet with Rock Steady beats and stimulate brain waves in a jazz-like way...delivered in an up-beat, positive and organic funk fashion. Mixed in an analog haze of vintage spring reverbs, tape echoes and custom hi-grade mixing console, Prince Fatty won’t disappoint the lovers of the early 70s sound.
Prince Fatty is champion in the Dub Arena. With a guest line-up that includes legendary drummer Style Scott from the Roots Radics, hammond organ by Bubblers from the infamous Ruff Cut Band, Afrobeat star Bukky Leo on sax with the Nostalgia 77 Horn Section and with special guest vocals from Little Roy, Winston Francis and Hollie Cook, the new vocalist for the band ‘The Slits’.
Little Roy has worked with such reggae greats as Jackie Mittoo, Prince Buster, Lloyd ‘Matador’ Daley, Lee ‘Scratch Perry and Studio One, He enjoyed hits with ‘Bongo Nyah’, ‘Black Bird" and ‘Tribal War.’
Winston Francis, is the prodigy of Chuck Bird, the great impresario, writer and performer. Winston went on to work with Carlos Malcolm, Derrick, Harriott and Boris Gardiner and recorded at Coxson's infamous Studio One in Jamaica, collaborating with foremost reggae artists including Dennis Brown, Bob Marley and Bob Andy amongst others. He enjoyed success with ‘Mr Fix It’ and his cover of the Mamas and the Papas' classic California Dreamin' which was Tony Blackburn's ‘Hit Pick of the Week’ on Radio One for two weeks straight.!

Cocoon Compilation G (Cocoon) CD
One of the most successful compilation serieses in Germany ascends the alphabet to the letter "G." This is the best of the Cocoon label, and the names on this release are a veritable "who's who" of the techno universe. Contemporary music in the year 2007 refuses to be pigeonholed to only one style -- more and more, it is simply a matter of whether the music is good, genres and categories be damned. After a slamming contribution from the lauded My My comes Cobblestone Jazz -- with a deep tech house track that appeals a bit to trance and dub. Chaim's track "Genesis" sounds trippy with Oriental harmonies and Detroit-like basslines, weird beats and hi-hats that should rock every rave. "Treibsand" by Stephan Bodzin breathes Frankfurt techno air and sounds like Johannes Heil and Anthony Rother without copying them. Tiefschwarz represents the "peak
time" part of the CD. Marcel Dettmann presents us the first real techno track, "Sepia" which is a classic old school techno pusher with minimal but fat beats, a lot of reverb and echo. Aki Latvamäki's contribution features rolling beats, staccato synths and driving hi-hats, creating a true techno monster that may catch the ears of fans of Mathew Jonson. Next, Audion cools down the temperature with "Fire," Phil Kieran stomps around with "I Think I'm A Monster," and newcomer Jamie Jones gives us "Harijuku" -- a very elegant tech house tool with a deep and driving basslines, fat house-y beats and soulful strings, making a nice transition to Onur Özer's piece which sounds a bit like a mixture between some old Mike Ink Studio1 records and current Pier Bucci productions. Magnificent! Deetron finalizes Compilation G and arouses us, unpacking a solid
bassline and mean synth sounds, slightly moving towards electro, but never becoming too hectic. Leaving a lot of space for a long intro, he creates an absolute highlight of the CD. A hefty mix for hefty parties, indeed.

Speicher CD 3 Mixed By Michael Mayer and Jorg Burger (Kompakt) CD
Everyone's favorite eagle returns (in seasonal green) to CD form with this third installment showcasing the best of Kompakt's voluptuous techno 12" imprint, Kompakt Extra aka Speicher. For this installment, Michael Mayer and Jörg Burger join forces to create the digitalmix -- kicking the tunes that have made the kids cry in joy and those singles that these two tastemakers hold dear to their hearts. As with previous installments, this mix CD is unlike the turntable driven, on-the-fly, aux-natural Kompakt DJ mixes you've come to love and enjoy -- Speicher CD3 is a purely digital mix so admittedly yes, there's been some cheating in bringing these tunes together. Finding forgiveness is a cinch as these tunes are arranged in a glorified fellowship proving to be the perfect warm-up for those hot summer nights as festival season kicks into high gear. Artists include: DJ Koze, Davidovitch,
Superpitcher, Stardiver, Tom Pooks, Axel Bartsch, Broke, John Dahlbäck, Misc, Motiivi:Tuntematon, Jürgen Paape and Mayer/Voigt.

Hearthrob- Baby Kate Remixes (Minus) 12"
Heartthrob's "Baby Kate" with remixes by Magda, Konrad Black, Sascha Funke and Plastikman. This EP kicks off with Magda's beautifully-crafted, percussive dub, complete with a morphing, distorted motif, bouncing acid bass and subtle use of space. Then there's Konrad Black's energetic signal to rave, with its gated hookline, phat electro bass and nu-school flavor. Sascha Funke presents a blissed-out bassline, skanking hi-hat patterns and hypnotic melody, and finally the EP concludes with Plastikman's dive into the track's murkiest depths. It's an 8-minute subsonic adventure that leaves you lost.

Sebo K- Back Up Vol. 1 (Mobilee) CD
Berlin's Sebo K opens the new DJ-mix series on Mobilee -- Back Up Vol. 01, the first installment in an ongoing series of mixed CDs from the Berlin label. Mobilee mainstay Sebo K is the man behind the mix, and with his successful releases on Mobilee, remixes on Pokerflat and his latest EP on Get Physical, he is in demand on the international dance scene. In its two dozen releases so far, Mobilee has earned a rep as one of minimal music's most forward-thinking labels, thanks to a consistently crystalline palette and an unwavering attention to the groove. But a deeper, housier impulse has lurked in the shadows, coming to the surface particularly in tracks like Sebo K's "Moved," featuring Prosumer, and that's the vibe that Sebo K explores on this compilation. Rich with resonant strings, pumping keys and unforgettable vocals, the mix deftly bridges the worlds of European techno and
classic, Afro-American house music. With attention-grabbing cuts like Efdemin's "Just A Track," Ray Valioso's "Got The Strings" and Larry Heard Presents Mr. White's heartrending "The Sun Can't Compare" scattered throughout, the mix jumps from peak to emotional peak, using more psychotropic transitions like Minilogue's "Elephant Parade" or GummiHz's "Isolate (Sebo K Remix)" as wormholes to shuttle you through the depths. Back Up Vol. 01 confirms Sebo K's reputation as a selector of the first order, and it's just the beginning of what looks to be a very good year for him. Back up, get down, move forward: Sebo K is going places. Other artists include: Kerry Chandler, Sascha Dive, John Daly, Jimpster, Kevin Gorman, Alex Under, Pier Bucci, Samim, Marco Resmann, Ferrer & Sydenham Inc. and Amé.

Caetano Veloso- S/T (Lilith) LP
LP version. "Originally released in 1968, Caetano Veloso's debut album did for Brazilian music what The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's did for rock & roll, giving birth to the soon-to-be Tropicalia movement, which fused Brazilian music with pop, psychedelia and social awareness (and Veloso's leftist politics actually earned him a stint in jail in 1968 for 'anti-government activity'). Veloso, nonetheless went on to become one of the most popular and influential Brazilian musicians of all time. Includes the genre-defining classics 'Clarice' and 'Soy Loco Por Tì, América,' 'Superbacana,' 'Tropicalia' and 'Alegria, Alegria.'"

Oxia/ Intus- Speicher 50 (Kompakt) 12”
The Speicher 12" series reaches its golden years! With "Not Sure" Olivier "Oxia" Raymond succeeds in perfecting a delicate balancing act, sticking to his general hit-making formula that goes that extra mile. It's the pivotal 50 hymn: a Speicher jubilee. An old friend from Bavaria named Intus contributes, kicking vodka-techno beats ingeniously out of tune. A howling guitar lurches us into the seventh sky of spiritual bliss. Frenzy is the new clarity.
Dusty Kid- Tsunamy (Systematic) 12”
You may know Alberto Lodde alias Dusty Kid from his productions under the name Duoteque. With five EPs under the Boxer imprint, Alberto and his partner Andrea Ferlin have caused a massive stir in techno land. However, now it is time for Alberto to walk a solo path. "Tsunamy" has to be handled with care as this can damage dancefloors with its explosive sawtooth bassline peak time action. "Milk" is the complete opposite -- a very sensitive and atmospheric groover in the tradition of Border Community.
Lazy Fat People-Low Profile (Perspectiv records) 12”
"After a handful numbers of incredible releases, Lazy Fat People are dropping their last offering on Perspectiv Records. Yep, you have in your hands the very last Lazy Fat People, ever. Every good thing must come to an end. On the A-side, 'Low Profile' is a haunting monster track. So reduced, that even the empty heads out there will feel the vibe! Detroit classic Moog-styled bassline, snaps played and panned by Salt & Pepper's Alessandra Mirka Gatti, kick drum softly hammered by Charlie Watts. This is a huge instant classic track. The 2000 and One remix on the flip side have both feets in the '90s! A pure Detroit classic old school house anthem! Rolling synth stabs, perfectly shuffling 808 toms, sweet hi-hats and a pile of a groove. Thea Austin from Snap! has already confirmed that the tune got her dancing for 48 hours non stop."
Don Cherry-Live St Café Montmarte 1966 (ESP Disc) CD/DVD
Featured artists: Don Cherry (trumpet); Gato Barbieri (tenor saxophone); Bo Stief (bass); Karl Berger (vibraphone); Aldo Romano (drums). Live performance from the legendary Café Montmartre. Digitally remastered. Also included: the new ESP DVD sampler, featuring selections of almost every ESP artist. Over 12 hours of music! Digitally remastered. Manufactured in the USA by the original label. "Don Cherry, more than any other artist in the jazz of his era, pioneered the music's internationalist nature that has now come to be commonly accepted as an integral part of its character. The individuality of Cherry's contribution to the history of jazz has often been unfairly obscured by his admittedly important association with the music of Ornette Coleman. While the (pocket) trumpeter's position as Coleman's front line partner in the altoist's first revolutionary quartet was indeed
a major one, Cherry's role as one of the founders of the genre that is known today as 'world music' is equally significant." --Russ Musto
Burial- Ghost Hardware (Hyperdub) 12”
No need for extensive sales notes on this one. It's three new tracks from the most high profile reclusive artist in the world right now, one or more of which may or may not appear on his almost-complete new album. This music does not represent any great stylistic shift, but at the same time neither does it go back over old ground... it is simply further first rate evidence of Burial's alchemical manipulation of mood, rhythm and sound. The ominous bass tones are as dense as they ever were, the strings still rise up from unexpected depths, and the disembodied siren voices continue to make mournful cries from the bleak empty quarters of consciousness, while those trademark rhythmic complexities dance their intricate steps.
