Upcoming Lectures

If you’d like to learn more about the MFA Interaction Design program, the community or professional network, or just meet designers from this and other fields, we warmly welcome you to join us at our upcoming lectures in the Lower East Side:

Wednesday, February 18, “The Modularists”

The insight required to craft modular systems requires designers to think through several variations of form and function — often beyond the original intent of an object, product, or service. How much does the design of discrete modules affect the integrity of the larger system? Should designers expect to wield control over any part of a user experience of modular systems? Four guest lecturers will examine a range of projects and trends in modular design, culminating in a discussion of the role of modularity among a group who value putting the power to create in the hands of everyone.Featured Speakers:

  • Nick Bilton, Design Integration Editor and User Interface Specialist at The New York Times and The Times Research & Development Lab
  • Brendan Dawes, magneticNorth
  • Chloe Gottlieb, VP, Executive Creative Director of Interaction Design, R/GA
  • Jeff Hoefs, littleBits, Smart Design

Wednesday, March 11, “The Curators”

Curatorial strategies are spilling out of galleries and museums and into our everyday design practices. As emphasis shifts from designer to consumer, the vital role of designer is often that of mediator, shaping ideas and content created by others into another user experience. How have these new pivots changed the role of designer from one of artisan to one of curator? Four lecturers speak to curation as a way of design life, and how their audiences learn from, are inspired by, and gain insights from it. Featured Speakers:

Internship Inquiries

Both local and international companies have already responded overwhelmingly positively by offering internships and summer positions to future MFA students. Companies interested in inquiring about competitive and strategic working relationships with students should contact interaction design at sva dot edu.

Prospective Student Reminder: February 23

Applicants who applied by the January 15 deadline will receive notification about coming in for a personal interview on or before February 23. Admittance to the Interaction Design program requires a personal interview. (Prospective students living beyond a 1,000-mile radius of New York City may request a telephone interview instead.)

We continue to accept applications on a rolling-admissions basis as space allows, and will be reviewing applications in the order they're received. We're looking forward to meeting you.
