For over 20 years, Eberhard Ross (b.1959), who describes himself as a 'scientist in art' has made an "attempt to understand the system of nature" , exploring the underlying rhythms and symmetries that connect natural phenomena as diverse as protein colonies, the swarming behaviour of birds, and most recently, snow falling on pine forests. In 2007, Ross was given a solo show at the Max Planck Institute in Dortmund, where he now meets with scientists discussing their findings, his own work, and the parallels between the two.

"As Ross concentrates on fundamental patterns he creates with his seeing and intuition images, which resemble in an astounding way phenomena found at the frontiers of molecular science." – Professor Matthias Geyer, Max Planck Institute, Dortmund.

The Space Between, in London's Hoxton district, features paintings and drawings from both Swarm and Eastern Speicher series. The Swarm paintings reveal a classic case of mathematical chaos – larger shapes composed of infinitely varied smaller patterns. The Speicher paintings are concentrated, incised, calligraphic clouds, suspended in shimmering fields of floating pigment.

To mark Ross' first solo London show, Four Square Fine Arts have commissioned Organic Geometries – a documentary focusing on the artist which includes interview and studio footage.
