I am surprised to still hear media executives treat search engines and weblogs as threats. In this new, open world of the internet, it's much wiser to treat them as opportunities. For today, if your brand and content cannot be found via search and links, then you're lost. You're nowhere.
That lesson has been driven home for me by working with About.com, which is amazing at search-engine optimization, as you know. You search on any of thousands of topics, and you can bet that an About.com GuideSite is likely to be one of the first choices.
