/////////////////////////////////////////////// S:S&S EP FOOTAGE & HYPE AT GDC 2010

Key members of the S:S&S EP team including rockstar Jim Guthrie, representatives from Superbrothers, plus Kris Piotrowski & Nathan Vella from Capy were on-hand in San Francisco earlier this month to share the weirdness & the wonder of the first S:S&S EP public playable with friends new & old at the Game Developers Conference 2010. It was a strange & delicious few days that will be fondly remembered for years, there were so very many lovely people who have quickly become very dear. To everyone who stopped by to say hello: now we are cosmic friends forever.

If you missed the event and you'd like to see footage of S:S&S EP in motion, feel free to stop by here: ***PROJECT.

Throughout the week appointments were made & generally kept with members of the press, discerning people representing videogame enthusiast websites such as Kotaku, Area5, Touch Arcade, Pocket Gamer, IGN & many more. These folks took S:S&S EP for a spin and have since weighed in with their thoughts. So far the response has been startlingly, inexplicably, even worryingly positive, as you can see here: HYPE.

Now, however, it is time to go dark again. There is ever so much left to do in the next few months.

/////////////////////////////////////////////// LESS TALK, MORE ROCK @ GDC / IGS

Mr. Brandon Boyer, a contributing editor at the internet website Boing Boing and friend of the people, has graciously chosen to showcase slides and an approximation of a talk given by a Superbrothers representative at the Independent Games Summit at the Game Developer's Conference 2010 in San Francisco.

The title of the talk, ironically enough, was: "LESS TALK, MORE ROCK: the native language of videogames can neither be spoken nor written'. The feature was originally prepared as a five-minute 'indie rapidfire rant' and is thus a little fast-and-loose, nevertheless the response has been largely positive, other than a few misunderstandings.

To see the slides & read the talk in its entirety, including never-before-seen Superbrothers interpretations of pioneering videogame characters from Jordan Mechner's Prince of Persia, Eric Chahi's Another World aka Out of this World, Shigeru Miyamoto's The Legend of Zelda & Super Mario Bros (above), as well as Fumito Ueda's Ico, allow perhaps five minutes & click here: LESS TALK, MORE ROCK, a Boing Boing feature.

/////////////////////////////////////////////// JIM GUTHRIE & HIS LITTER KICKED SOME SERIOUS ASS

Freshly returned from his S:S&S EP adventures at GDC, Jim Guthrie was back in Canada to rock the El Mocambo in Toronto & The Starlight in Waterloo this past weekend with 'His Litter', an incrediby tight all-star seven piece that featuring some of Toronto's coolest cats. The songs were drawn from Jim's record Morning Noon Night & Now, More Than Ever, only re-arranged & refereshed for maximum amazing. Jim Guthrie & His Litter are planning to take the stage again at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto in June so if you like great great music & top notch musicianship then you'll want to keep an eye or an ear open for the date.

* * * THIS JUST IN: Jim Guthrie's masterful record Now, More Than Ever will be available on vinyl for the first time on June 7th 2010. Audiophiles may wish to pre-order it right the heck here: 3 SYLLABLES RECORDS.

"JIM GUTHRIE has left an indelible mark on the Canadian music scene, from his early days as a home-rock DJ in Guelph, to his searing lead guitar in ROYAL CITY, ISLANDS, and HUMAN HIGHWAY. But his solo career is outstanding; every musician I know is indebted to him, especially me. Working on Now More Than Ever with Jim, the band, and Andy Magoffin, none of us really understood the scope of it until it was released to great acclaim in Canada and beyond. Jim’s songs are as cryptic as a crossword and as personal as a foot massage. This record changed our lives, may it now change yours." - OWEN PALLETT

ALSO: If you've never heard Jim's music outside of the Superbrothers films then you owe it to yourself to watch the clip "Now, Skate or Die!". The clip is 'a little bit of eye candy' to go along with the title song from Jim's Juno-nominated record "Now, More Than Ever" and it features a soaring string arrangement from Owen Pallett. The video, despite the admittedly rough image quality, is a real beauty... and the song is pure magic. Allow perhaps three minutes & dig up some headphones, then head on over to the ol' CINEMATHEQUE.
